911制品Calls for Government Action Over Potential Incinerator Build in Portland
Advising intervention ahead of an upcoming court hearing, the 911制品urges officials to revoke planning permission until key concerns are addressed
The 911制品has written to the Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Angela Raynor, the Secretary of State for DEFRA, Steve Reed OBE, and the No. 10 policy unit over potential risks relating to the future build of an incinerator in Portland.
鈥淲e have significant concerns that the incinerator does not meet current environmental and health standards, updated by the Government in December 2024. Whilst planning for the incinerator was initially approved in September 2024, it would be rejected on environmental and health grounds if submitted today.
"Further, we are worried about the CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions which equally concern our athletes in terms of their impact on the environment. With new waste legislation coming into force at the end of this month, the proportion of renewable content in the fuel for the proposed incinerator will be substantially reduced, undermining one of the key arguments for its construction.鈥 Sara Sutcliffe, 911制品CEO.
